Standardization of hydraulic and thermal machines

International standardization is managed by ISO (International Organization for Standardization), whose central secretariat is based in Geneva. ISO, a worldwide federation of national standards bodies, was founded in 1947. In 1996, it had 118 members, one from each country, including 85 member bodies (the other members being either corresponding members or subscriber members). AFNOR is the French member body of ISO, and is therefore the only organization entitled to participate and exercise full voting rights within any body, to be eligible for Council membership and to sit on the General Assembly.
