2. Experimental tests
An experimental phase is often necessary when a physical phenomenon needs to be modeled. Experimentation provides a realistic view of the phenomenon under study, which is essential for correct modeling.
The main objective of the tests was to develop a numerical tool for simulating the behavior, up to failure, of a clinch subjected to shear. With this in mind, the tests were meticulously instrumented, thus reducing the number of hypotheses to be formulated in the numerical work. In addition, the influence of certain parameters governing the response of the assembly was highlighted. Finally, observation of failure modes and analysis of load-displacement curves provided an initial idea of the behavior of the component under study.
