INTRODUCTION

The development of centripetal turbines, operating with compressible fluids, is linked to the important role now played by the supercharging of internal combustion engines.

This file, consisting of two parts, [BM 4 570] and , describes the operation and general study of these centripetal turbines. After outlining how they work and the various techniques used, this first part recalls the fundamental principles of turbomachinery, principles which are specific to and necessary for the study of these small centripetal turbines.
