5. Cycle simulation. Two-zone modeling

Multi-zone modeling can take into account the specificities of combustion (progression, flame front propagation, diffusion combustion); in some cases, it can take into account the geometry of the combustion chamber, and can specify a specific composition for the different zones. Our presentation will focus on the case of two zones (figure 18 ); extension to a larger number of zones poses no difficulty in theory, although some sub-models will need to be adapted. The two-zone case is justified for the simulation of a spark-ignition engine cycle with homogeneous load.
