5. Conclusion
Zerodimensional modeling of combustion in diesel engines is used in a wide range of applications, from the preliminary validation of a new solution to engine control models. The choice of the type of model to be used depends largely on the requirements in terms of accuracy and calculation speed:
for a design office application, precision is more important than calculation time, so multi-zone models are preferred;
for engine control applications (i.e. on-board applications), on the other hand, simpler models (phenomenological or single-zone models) will be chosen, as the available computing time is very limited.
