Martensitic stainless steels have a chromium content of around 12% and a variable carbon content, which determines their hardenability (tables

). Steels with a relatively low carbon content are mainly used in boiler making. Indeed, the increased brittleness of steels with carbon content above 0.2% significantly increases the level of care required when cutting, forming and welding these steels.
