2. DSC principle

When a system undergoes a transformation reaction under the effect of a heating or cooling program, its temperature evolves differently from that of a heat-inert material. Differential microcalorimetry measures the temperature difference (Δ T ) between the reacting material (sample e) and the inert material (reference r). This is proportional to the heat exchanged during the reaction:
