8. Prevention Measures

8.1 Design-Phase Measures

The planning of a new factory or workshop should be an opportunity to develop a noise reduction plan, allowing for the anticipation of potential noise problems. In a workshop or industrial facility, to achieve an acceptable noise level, an action plan and specifications must be developed systematically. At the start of the project, it is important to identify noise sources both inside and outside the workplace. When the noise level to which workers will be exposed is likely to exceed 85 dB(A), the premises must be designed to reduce acoustic reverberation off walls—if such reverberation is likely to cause an increase of 3 dB(A) or more in workers’ exposure levels—and to limit the propagation of noise to other areas occupied by workers.
