4. Workplaces
A worker’s noise exposure is better controlled when the quality
of the workspace in which they perform their duties is properly managed.
To this end, there are criteria specified directly by the Labor Code,
environmental regulations, or the Building and Housing Code. Other
criteria are set forth in standards and are not mandatory; this is
particularly the case for spaces containing offices.
Even if it is not harmful, noise in offices can have serious consequences
for workers’ health. Exposure to noise, even at moderate levels, can
cause symptoms such as headaches, stress, cardiovascular problems,
sleep deprivation, and so on. Beyond workers’ health, there are also
direct consequences for work quality and company performance.
