2. Magnetic materials for low-frequency energy conversion
In the following paragraphs, some of the major classes of magnetic materials are discussed in greater detail, with reference to specific applications. For example, in the case of a high power density requirement – i.e. high induction – there is also a more or less binding trade-off between the need to reduce power consumption, increase efficiency and reduce dissipated losses, depending on the field of application.
Here, only applications where power density takes precedence over all other dimensioning constraints are considered: these are embedded machines (railways, aeronautics, space, robotics, wheel motors, etc.).
