CENELEC to draw up a European standard

The development of a European standard involves a public inquiry in member countries, followed by a formal vote by CENELEC members and final ratification.

The European standard is announced at national level, published or ratified as an identical national standard, and any conflicting national standard is cancelled. The content of a European standard must not contradict that of other European standards. Like international standards, European standards are reviewed periodically. During the establishment and lifetime of the European standard, the status quo applies.
