1. Magnetic coupling technology
A magnetic coupling can be used whenever it is necessary to hermetically separate two media, such as product processing and the external environment where the drive system is located. The mechanical energy on the side of the product to be processed will correspond to a mechanical shaft (the article concerns rotating couplings). This mechanical energy comes from a drive system. The separation between the two shafts is achieved by means of an insulating wall placed in the air gap. The wall must be made of a non-magnetic and preferably non-conductive material to limit eddy-current losses: non-magnetic stainless steel, fiberglass, ceramic, plastic. Depending on the application, it must be able to withstand corrosion, temperature and/or differential pressure....
