4. Rare earth alloys
The appearance of these metal alloys around the 1960s represented a huge advance in the field of permanent magnets, thanks to their magnetic properties. Compared with other existing magnets, rare-earth magnets have a very high volumetric energy density and high resistance to demagnetization.
This family includes :
samarium-cobalt magnets ;
neodymium-iron-boron magnets.
