ABSTRACT

Due to the expected growth of their market, permanent magnet materials have very favorable future prospects for their development. This is linked to the increasing use of connected devices and electric vehicles, as well as the growing importance of renewable energies in energy production.

Ferrite magnets, which account for the largest share of the permanent magnet market revenue, are mainly used in commercial or industrial motors. Nd-Fe-B magnets are seeing their application expand due to their growing use in electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles and wind turbines. Alnico, Sm-Co and Sm-Fe-N magnets are used for specific applications.

 INTRODUCTION

Permanent magnets have very promising prospects for increased use in many fields. The growth of the electric vehicle market, combined with the expanding share of renewable energy—particularly wind power—in electricity generation, continues to drive the growth of the permanent magnet market, especially for ferrite and Nd-Fe-B magnets.

Ferrite magnets are increasingly used in automotive locking and braking systems, as well as in electroacoustic systems such as speakers and microphones.

Nd-Fe-B magnets are increasingly used in electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as in wind power generation and information technology.

Alnico and Sm-Co magnets are used for specific applications due to their corrosion resistance and the stability of their magnetic properties at high temperatures, particularly in the aerospace and military sectors.

Sm-Fe-N magnets, which have recently emerged, are expected to see their applications expand into the same sectors as Nd-Fe-B magnets.

The study of permanent magnet applications covered in this report examines the various forms of energy conversion that can be achieved using these different types of magnets.
