2. Schematic expression
A schematic is a static graphical structure representing an assembly of basic units. Only the basic units are executable in the simulator's sense. The semantics used are the block (which can embed a behavior) and the "thread" or connection, which can conceal different information transport paradigms. A schema can be described in the same way by a "netlist" in textual form in various standardized or proprietary formats.
