Power networks — Methods for solving equations

The following results were obtained on two networks of quite different sizes:

• the French 400 and 225 kV network, comprising 1,866 nodes and 2,422 links (124 generating nodes, i.e. nodes to which electricity-generating equipment is connected);

• an IEEE test network comprising 162 nodes and 284 links (12 producer nodes).

Note that these two networks are structurally quite different: the ratio of the number of lines to the number of nodes is much greater for the 162-node network (1.8 vs. 1.3), meaning that it is more closely meshed.

The results obtained allow us to compare the performance of the main network calculation methods...
