2. Various types of supercapacitors

  • We will first distinguish two main families:

    • electrostatic-type supercapacitors, in which electricity is stored by the simple displacement of electronic and ionic charges;

    • electrochemical supercapacitors, in which reversible faradic processes are also involved.

Electrochemical supercapacitors should not be confused with the electrolytic or electrochemical capacitors described elsewhere [36] .

  • Finally, even if they are only mentioned for the record, we'd like to mention a few special hybrid devices, unclassifiable under the two previous headings by the fact that one of the electrodes functions like that of an accumulator or electrolytic...
