4. Resistive limiter
Network constraints, and in particular the need to keep fault currents to a minimum, make the basic diagram a little more complex, in particular by introducing an impedance across the superconducting element (figure
10
). This impedance only comes into play in the limiting regime, since it is otherwise short-circuited by the superconductor.
We'll see that the superconductor volume is proportional to the short-circuit current and voltage, as well as to the limiting time. It is therefore interesting to have a reduced current in the superconductor in the limiting regime, which can pose problems for amperometric protection....
