3. Capacitor design and manufacture
The capacitor element (figure

) consists of two thin (5 to 6 µm) metal armatures (aluminum or zinc), separated by an insulating medium (several films of paper and/or PP films impregnated or not with a liquid dielectric) of thickness d and permittivity ε. The electrodes (surface
) and films are wound to form a coil. A unitary capacitor is made from a combination of several elements connected in parallel and/or in series.
There are two manufacturing techniques, depending on the voltage used.
