Energy Savings and Energy Performance. Concepts, Challenges and Methods

Energy - its resources, use and management - is a theme that is included in approaches such as sustainable development and the circular economy. However, it has to be said that this theme is rarely addressed in the latter. The seriousness of an environmental commitment can be judged not only by the presence or absence of objectives to improve energy management, but also by its concrete actions.

Implementing energy-saving measures is the key to reducing environmental impact, and in particular GHG emissions.

Since the introduction of an incentive policy for the rational use of energy, a program to reduce national energy consumption focusing on its use, the annual CO₂ emissions balance shows a significant halving, expressed in tons of CO₂/unit of GDP from 1990 to 2020 (figure
