4. Refining
Refining is the set of operations that transform crude oil into petroleum products for everyday use.
Knowing the composition of a crude oil is important for the refiner, as it enables him to optimize the choice of crude oil or crude oil cocktail he will use to produce, as economically as possible, the petroleum products demanded by the market with the refining equipment at his disposal.
4.1 Crude oil composition
Crude oils take the form of more or less viscous liquids, essentially made up of hydrocarbons of varying volatility and chemical nature (figure 5 )
