What is the methanization process?

Methanization, or the methanation process, is a natural biological process for degrading animal or plant organic matter in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic digestion), thanks to the action of multiple micro-organisms. It occurs naturally in certain environments, such as marshes, or can be implemented voluntarily in dedicated facilities.

In the large tank known as the digester, organic waste undergoes an anaerobic digestion process: it is heated and degraded by bacteria and micro-organisms in the absence of oxygen. This natural action produces methane gas.
