4. Adsorber and reactor design
Numerous studies have focused on the design of the adsorber to obtain the best possible mass and heat transfer performance, and to limit its weight and volume.
Finned-tube techniques, with the adsorbent distributed loosely between the fins, were initially adopted until techniques for depositing adsorbents on surfaces, giving rise to coated surfaces with a layer of adsorbent, were mastered. The advantage of fin-and-tube heat exchangers is their relatively simple preparation, but their heat transfer limitations are a handicap.
