International standardization
Standardization in the Field of Refrigeration

International standardization is managed by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), whose central secretariats are based in Geneva.

ISO, the worldwide federation of national standards bodies, was founded in 1947. It comprises 165 members (one per country), 124 of which are member bodies (the other members are either corresponding members or subscriber members). AFNOR is the French member body of ISO, and is therefore the only organization entitled to participate and exercise full voting rights within any body, to be eligible for Council membership and to sit on the General Assembly.

ISO's work extends to all areas of standardization, with the exception of electrical and electronic technology, which is the responsibility of the IEC.
