2. System energy
The exergy of a certain quantity of matter contained in a system is a measure of the potential for the production (or reception) of maximum (or minimum) work by the supersystem (made up of the system and its surrounding environment) which will enable this quantity of matter to be brought back from its initial state to a state of inert equilibrium with the surrounding environment.
