INTRODUCTION
Organic fluorine derivatives are an important class of chemicals which have found applications in a wide variety of fields. Although the vast majority of these compounds are prepared by processes involving chlorine-fluorine exchange using fluorohydric acid, there are many other routes of access.
The aim of this article is to describe the various methods of fluorination using hydrofluoric acid, elemental fluorine, metallic or non-metallic fluorides, and the main processes for preparing organic fluorinated compounds, with particular emphasis on industrially-operated processes.
