7. Registration of rolling stock
Any rail vehicle used for public transport, whether freight or passenger, must be registered in one of the member states of the European Union in order to access the national rail network or the lines of the trans-European network. Since September 1
2011, the networks concerned in France are the national rail network (RFN), the French part of the cross-Channel fixed link, and the French part of the international Perpignan section – Figueras. Vehicles to be registered include motor vehicles (locomotives, railcars, etc.) and hauled vehicles (wagons, carriages).
