Overview
ABSTRACT
In the railway field, signaling makes the link between infrastructure elements (track, bridges, etc.) and rolling stock (trains). This paper focuses on the different roles of rail signaling related to safety and operation. It presents vigilance systems, the speed control system, the various switching stations, and the new European railway signaling ERTMS / ETCS system. Finally, we discuss the different phases of a signaling project, how maintenance is ensured and how the work is performed on the signaling installations.
