2. Natural and formal languages

A natural language is a language spoken and/or written by a human being. Natural languages are opposed to formal languages, such as mathematical languages, computer languages and logical languages. Formal languages are the opposite of natural languages, for which automatic processing algorithms are extremely complex and, above all, need to evolve over time to adapt to language transformations.

Note (lingua franca versus vernacular) :

a vehicular language is a language used between populations of different mother tongues, especially when it's a third language, different from the two native languages (e.g. mathematical language or logical languages). It differs from the vernacular language, which is commonly used within a population or community, given that a language can be both vehicular and vernacular...
