3. Amplification methods
The amplification of short pulses with frequency drift is similar to that of any optical signal. It involves transferring energy from an external source (optical or electrical) to the signal you wish to amplify. The main specificity lies in the spectral gain band, which must be wide enough to amplify short pulses. Two energy transfer mechanisms are commonly used in CPA systems: stimulated emission amplification and optical non-linear amplification, which are available in a wide variety of architectures depending on the desired characteristics (gain, energy, rate, wavelength, etc.).
