2. Electron-photon analogy

2.1 Schrödinger equation. Maxwell's equations

As we have already mentioned, the notions of "photon gap" and "photonic band gap" stem from the analogy between electrons and photons, or more precisely, between the electron wave function and the electromagnetic field. These two physical quantities are governed respectively by Schrödinger's equation (equation (1) ) and Maxwell's equation (equation (2) ), which are clearly related:
