3. Setting up a CONWIP system

3.1 Prerequisites

CONWIP is a piloting mode adapted to Flow shop workshops.

Unlike the job shop, where workstations are grouped according to technological skills, and the order in which products move from one workstation to the next is variable, the flow shop is a layout in which the order in which products move from one workstation to the next remains constant.

However, this distinction is only theoretical, and in practice, a CONWIP can still be set up when products double up on the same station, or skip certain steps in the range.
