5. Intermodal transport organization

The intermodal transport chain, from a shipper (loader or forwarder) to a consignee, is shown in the table 3 .

5.1 Actors' performance

Table 3 lists the players involved in the various forms of intermodal transport, without specifying which part of the chain they are principals or service providers for. The main principals are always the shipper or the consignee, but very often the complexity of the operations leads them to entrust responsibility for organizing transport to a freight forwarder or to a shipowner directly, if their size allows.
