4. Glossary

Obeya

Large room in Japanese. This is the place where projects are animated and change is led. Objectives, progress indicators and ongoing actions in various areas are posted on the wall. The management team, for example, meets here in a ritualized way to measure, analyze and act. Invented by Toyota for the launch of the Prius, this project management method has since become the norm.

Ritual

A meeting that recurs with high frequency (daily in operations, weekly in projects), it's also known as a short-interval animation (SIA). It takes place in front of a visual display, with a fixed schedule, participants and agenda, and a short duration (30 minutes maximum). It's the frequency that ensures responsiveness and rapid processing of issues.
