3. Classification and identification of materials

3.1 Classification

Hazardous materials are liquids, solids, gases, or objects that, either due to their chemical properties or the nature of the physical reactions they are capable of causing, pose a risk to humans, property, or the environment.

Dangerous goods are subdivided into different hazard classes, numbered from 1 to 9, with the following titles:

  • 1. – Explosive substances and articles;

  • 2. – Gas;

  • 3. – Flammable liquids;

  • 4.1. – Flammable solids, self-reactive substances, substances that polymerize, and desensitized explosive solids;

  • 4.2. – Materials subject to spontaneous combustion...
