2.1 Neutrality of technique and technology

By focusing on the critical analysis of technology and the undesirable consequences of some of its uses, many philosophers have shown the fallacy of its neutrality. However, understanding why the engineer's work is not a neutral activity in society requires a nuanced examination.

The thesis of neutrality is the result of the relationship between man and technology constructed on the means/ends model. Considered as a mere means, technology is directed towards our ends. It would be the neutral instrument that users may or may not make good use of. A priori, a knife can be used to cut carrots or to slaughter an enemy.
