1. The relationship between philosophy, engineering, science and technology

1.1 Philosophy and technology

The dividing line between the terms "technique" and "technologie", here from a philosophical point of view, does not in any way reflect an opposition, but rather a continuity that starts with the gesture (know-how) and extends into the object (artefact ). If, today, the expression "philosophy of technology" tends to be more widely used, it's mainly due to a corpus written mainly in English, a language that hardly ever uses the word "technique".

We therefore adopt the expression "philosophy of technology" in a sense that does not seek to make the word "technology" exist outside of what is linked to the use of objects, their production and their impact on the world.
