7. Project and system risk management

The implementation of an information system takes the form of an implementation project. There is an extensive literature on project management.

We'll only deal here with the risks involved in such a project.

• Risks are generally related to :

  • project management, allocated resources, support from future users, funding, sponsors and their continued interest in the success of the project;

  • to the organization and its long-term viability. Since it takes time to design and get approval for an information system project, it is prudent to prepare a project plan that is only half the life of the sponsoring organization.
