1. Complementary plastics for the packaging market

To fully understand the growth of bio-based and recycled plastics in packaging, it is necessary to examine the plastic packaging market and the main polymers used to fulfill the various functions of packaging.

1.1 Polymers used in packaging in France

Plastics are a chemical family that includes various polymers, sometimes referred to as “resins.” Packaging primarily uses thermoplastics, which are polymers that, when heated, melt or soften enough to be repeatedly reshaped over time.
