4. Functions
Packaging and the product it contains are inextricably linked. Packaging accompanies the product throughout its life cycle. In particular, the packaging must enable the product to be made available to the user or consumer as close as possible to its initial state at the end of the production or manufacturing process. Packaging must therefore erase time and space in relation to the product it contains, and contribute to the appeal that leads to the act of purchasing the product.
It is vital to define the role that packaging must play in the distribution chain, i.e. its functions. As a container, packaging plays a dual role in the life of the product it contains: a technical role — it protects —, but also a representative role — it dresses.
Packaging functions can be grouped into two categories: technical functions
