6. Conclusion

The design of ready-to-sell packaging requires an analysis of the issues involved in both packaging manufacture and the packaging line process.

The choice of different secondary packaging solutions depends on various criteria, or constraints, most of which remain the same for ready-to-sell packaging:

  • the shape of the primary packaging (the consumer sales unit): regular or non-regular geometry, for example;

  • whether the consumer unit is load-bearing or not (vertical compressive strength or RCV): type of material, for example;

  • types of packaging lines used by the industrial packer: output capacity, for example;

  • logistical information: basic dimensions for transport, PCBs (if suitable), expected level of traceability,...
