7. The wood packaging market

7.1 Key figures

The structural study on wood packaging, carried out by GALLILEO in 2020, provides an updated snapshot of the market (2019 data). Thus, sales for the three professional sectors represented 1.5 billion euros, an average annual increase of 2.6% since 2015. This confirms its predominant position within the forestry-wood industry, to be compared with the turnover of the wood construction sector (1.9 billion euros).

Wood packaging is also a major employer. The 860 companies that manufacture and repair wooden packaging represent 17,400 direct jobs throughout France.

France remains the main destination market for wood packaging. Almost all packaging is sold in France, less than 300 km away.
