8. Unit shutdown

A nuclear reactor has to be shut down periodically to replace part of the fuel (every 12 or 18 months in France). These shutdowns are planned over a five-year period.

8.1 Three types of stop

There are three types of shutdown: partial (or "periodic", VP), simple refuelling (ASR) and ten-yearly (VD).

Note :

The term "visit" normally refers to inspections to be carried out during a shutdown, but is often used to designate the shutdown itself.
