5. Conclusion

The first result of an OMF study is a preventive maintenance program that is rigorous, traceable and therefore easily upgradable. But the implementation of this method also contributes to changing mentalities through :

  • consideration of the company's overall objectives;

  • a greater awareness on the part of maintenance staff of the effects of their work and the functional consequences of failures;

  • Involvement of drivers in certain maintenance activities;

  • direct use of feedback and improvement of its collection.

As the risks are better controlled, the first benefits obtained are often economic gains through a reduction in the volume of preventive maintenance when this is excessive. This gain depends on the system...
