2. Definition and main principles of the method

2.1 Definition

We can attempt to define OMF (figure 1 ) by saying that it is a decision-support method for drawing up a preventive maintenance program for a plant, while respecting constraints and optimizing criteria.

The criteria are generally: availability, quality of the product or service provided, and operating costs.

These constraints include personal safety and environmental protection.
