3.1 Detection, diagnosis and prognosis

The maintenance activity calls on various business processes whose aim is to reduce maintenance costs, while increasing the reliability, availability and safety of equipment. We commonly speak of fault detection, failure diagnosis, choice of control actions (preventive or corrective), and the planning of these actions over time. In a nutshell, these steps correspond to the need, first, to perceive certain phenomena, then to understand them, and finally, to act accordingly.
