The operational availability of a complex industrial system depends primarily on the reliability of its component parts. Since equipment is built from a wide variety of materials (metals, composites, concrete, ceramics, etc.), its initial characteristics can be degraded by operating or environmental conditions. It is therefore necessary to implement effective tools to detect and monitor the evolution of their degradation over time, before failure occurs, which could compromise the required functions.
