5. Optimization of a dielectric polymer

Depending on the desired properties and their determinants presented above, several approaches can be implemented to design an optimal dielectric polymer.

5.1 Maximizing free volume

The Clausius-Mossotti relationship expresses the influence of free volume on dielectric properties. This is particularly true when introducing sterically hindered groups into a polymer chain.

Examples

Introducing the adamantane group into a polyimide chain reduces the permittivity from 3.5 to 2.7 and also reduces its hydrophilic character
