5. Glossary
Artifact
Formed from the Latin ars, artis (art) and the past participle of facere (to make), then borrowed from the English artefact, this term designates, in one of its many meanings, "that which is made by a human being, an artificial product". It is therefore "a product [...] of industry", in other words, a manufactured product. Finally, artifact designates any product that has undergone even the slightest transformation by a human being –, which distinguishes it from any other product generated by a natural phenomenon.
