5. Thermomechanical behavior
5.1 General
As we have seen, the mechanical behavior of plastics depends mainly on intermolecular bonds. In the molten or solid state, covalent forces generally only come into play for locally high mechanical splitting or tensile stresses, except in thermorigid materials, where they ensure cohesion.
